Register for BPEQ x EA Industry Partners Series: engineering Queensland - regulation, innovation, and leadership
Engineers, industry professionals, and students from Emerald and surrounding regions are invited to join a free evening of professional development, practical insights, and networking on Thursday 10 September 2026.
Engineers Australia (EA) and the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland (BPEQ) will bring their Industry Partners Series to Emerald for a discussion about engineering regulation, professional standards, and leadership in regional Queensland.
Engineering decisions carry significant consequences for public safety, infrastructure performance, and community trust. As projects become more complex and accountability expectations increase, engineers must understand both their professional obligations and the leadership role they play in shaping the future of the profession.
BPEQ Registrar Timea Steptoe will discuss the role of engineering regulation in protecting the public, maintaining professional standards, and supporting confidence in the profession. Attendees will gain practical insights into registration requirements, compliance obligations, ethical practice, and ongoing professional development.
Joining the discussion is Brooke Veliscek, Director Infrastructure and Sustainability at The University of Queensland and President of the EA Queensland Division Committee. Brooke will share perspectives on engineering leadership, professional advocacy and the opportunities and challenges facing engineers across regional and metropolitan Queensland.
The session will also provide practical guidance on the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (Qld), including what its requirements mean for engineers’ careers and day-to-day professional practice.
Whether you’re an experienced engineer or a student beginning their career, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange local perspectives, and build connections with industry peers. Eligible participants can also earn up to 1.5 hours continuing professional development hours.
